A simple yet classic design with multiple diverse applications, this maple riser can be used in multiple rooms. It is made from locally sourced maple with hand-made turned feet on my lathe. The finish is butcher block oil so it is 100% food safe and can also be used as a cutting board, charcuterie board, or serving platter for food at your next get together. Because I mill these out of maple boards, the size is approximate: 7" wide, 16" long, 2.5" tall. You can also use these in other rooms like a bathroom to hold your soap dish or personal hygiene products for a tidy look.
This massive rack is 55" in total length (height when mounted) and holds (10) 750ml size wine bottles. The corks are exposed to allow air flow and the bottles are held horizontally for a reason. If you're into wine, you know precisely why both of these attributes are necessary for wine storage. A few of the images show spirits other than wine.
The finishing process to achieve this prominent look is involved and time-consuming. The maple is dyed with three different colors of aniline dye, sanding between each stage. Then 4 coats of Danish Oil and sanding are used to make the maple pop and display the chatoyance from the curls. After that, 4 coats of high gloss finish are applied and smoothed with #0000 steel wool for a glass-like finish between each coat. Then it received two coats of paste wax. Each stage sits at least one day before I apply the next coat. It took around two weeks for me to complete just the finish on this piece.
Due to the nature of this build and the weight it could hold, it is absolutely imperative that both french clips provided for mounting are securely mounted into solid wood or a stud behind drywall.
